TROUBLE SHOOTING

The purpose of the "Trouble Shooting" section is to provide a self-help reference of  problems and solutions.  You are encouraged to scan this section if you encounter  problems during the activation, or use, of your Inductel speller.  You may find the fix you are looking for here.

CASE NO. 1

Problem:  Spell check does not work.  It flags words that are spelled correctly.  Or it does not offer suggested corrections.

Solution 1:  Try activating your custom dictionary.  Here's how: Click on the "Home"
button at the bottom of this page, and return to the table of contents.  There, select your word processing program from the list, and read the instructions carefully.

CASE NO. 2
Problem:  In Microsoft Word for Mac, you can see your new Inductel custom dictionary
in the "Add Dictionary" list but cannot add it.

Solution:   When you get to the "Add Dictionary" step, rather than choose Enable “Speller Custom Dictionary” choose “Enable: All Documents” or "Enable:All Files" instead.

That should allow you to add your new custom dictionary.

CASE NO. 3

Problem:  A couple of days ago I installed the … medical speller.  Now every time that
I try to use the program, the set-up window comes up.  Any ideas on what might be
wrong?

Solution:   Once the Inductel speller is installed, you don't need to run the program again.
Just read the speller activation instructions to make sure that the speller files are enabled
correctly.  Then run a spell check and key in some test words to verify the Inductel
speller is working.

CASE NO. 4

Problem:  In Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac, the spell check would not flag
misspelled words.  Clue: Customer reported that certain spelling dictionaries had been
removed from her computer and replaced with third party vendor spelling dictionaries.
The original spelling dictionaries had been located in the following folder:  …\Microsoft
Office 2004\Shared Applications\Proofing Tools.  Their names were: US English
Spelling Dictionary and Australian Spelling Dictionary.  Customer had, wisely, backed
up her original spelling dictionaries to another folder.

Solution:  We had the customer return the original spelling dictionaries to their original
folder.  That fixed the problem.

CASE NO. 5
Problem: In Word for Mac, the custom dictionary will not retain its check mark.

Solution: Open the affected custom dictionary file using Word.  Then save the file as type speller custom dictionary.  Then go back to the "Add Dictionary" window and place the check mark on the affected custom dictionary again.

CASE NO. 6
Problem: "...when I go to Preferences (in Word 2004 for Mac), and try to add the
(spelling) dictionary, it isn't highlighted, and I can't select it. I have Word 2004; it should work with that, shouldn't it?"

Solution: "We have heard a few reports of a problem that sound similar to yours.  The users were able to fix the problem by opening the speller file using Word as if the file were a regular document then saving the file as type “custom spelling dictionary.”"  See Case 1 above.
